Prof. Larry Sherman (OHSU/ONPRC, Department of Neuroscience, Portland,

"Snf5 mutations in Schwann cells induce TRPV1 in sensory neurons: A
novel model of neuropathic pain“

Patient with the tumor predisposition disease schwannomatosis develop
multple peripheral nerve tumors and exhibit intractable pain.
Mutations in the Snf5 gene are linked to schwannomatosis. The Sherman
lab has discovered that Schwann cells with Snf5 mutations secrete
proteins that induce TRPV1 and other pain mediators from Schwann
cells, leading to neuropathic pain symptoms. These studies hold
promise for the development of novel strategies to treat neuropathic
pain.

mit besten Grüssen,
Andreas Kuhn
